“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness. That is a friend who cares.” —(via raindropsonredroses) (via dreamingbella)

“A life is not worth living if you are sleepwalking through it. We cannot sleepwalk. We cannot just survive, anything goes. We can take control of our lives, we can quit sleepwalking, we can say - right now, these are our lives, it is time to start living it. It is time to not second guess, to move forward, to make mistakes if we have to, but to do it with a greater good in mind.” —Jerry Maguire (submitted by technicolora) (via quote-book)

“It’s easy: push everyone away and you’ll never get hurt. But it’s not very effective. Someday, someone is gonna find a way in your life and you’d have to beg on your knees for them to stay.” —(via raindropsonredroses) (via dreamingbella)

Pain and suffering is inevitable, being miserable is optional.

Everybody is a story. When I was a child, people sat around kitchen tables and told their stories. We don’t do that so much anymore. Sitting around the table telling stories is not a way of passing time. It is a way the wisdom gets passed along. The stuff that helps us live life worth remembering. Despite the awesome powers of technology many of us still do not live very well. We need to listen to each others stories once again.
